*Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace* (1999) introduces young Anakin Skywalker (Jake Lloyd), a gifted boy on the desert planet of Tatooine. Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson) and his apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor), are sent to negotiate a dispute between the Trade Federation and the planet Naboo, which is under siege. They rescue Queen Amidala (Natalie Portman) and escape to Coruscant, where the Galactic Senate is in turmoil. Qui-Gon believes Anakin is the Chosen One, prophesied to bring balance to the Force, and seeks to train him as a Jedi. Meanwhile, a mysterious Sith Lord, Darth Sidious, manipulates events from the shadows. The story culminates in a battle on Naboo, where Jedi face Sith apprentices, culminating in the reveal of Darth Maul (Ray Park), the Sith warrior. The film explores the rise of the Sith and sets the stage for the fall of the Galactic Republic and Anakin’s eventual destiny.
