*Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith* (2005) depicts the fall of the Galactic Republic and the rise of the Empire. The Clone Wars are nearing their end, with Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) becoming a hero of the Republic. However, Anakin struggles with visions of his wife, Padmé Amidala (Natalie Portman), dying in childbirth. Meanwhile, Chancellor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) seduces Anakin to the dark side, revealing himself as Darth Sidious, the Sith Lord behind the Republic’s conflict. Palpatine manipulates Anakin into believing the Jedi are traitors, leading him to betray them. Anakin becomes Darth Vader and helps the Emperor execute Order 66, wiping out the Jedi Order. In a final confrontation, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) and Anakin duel on the volcanic planet Mustafar, leaving Anakin severely injured and burned. The film ends with the formation of the Galactic Empire, the birth of Luke and Leia, and Anakin’s transformation into Darth Vader.
