*Rogue One: A Star Wars Story* (2016) is set just before *A New Hope* and follows Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), the daughter of Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen), the scientist forced to work on the Empire’s secret superweapon, the Death Star. After Galen secretly sabotages the weapon’s design, Jyn is recruited by the Rebel Alliance to steal the Death Star plans, which could expose a critical flaw in its construction. Jyn leads a diverse group of rebels, including Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and the droid K-2SO (Alan Tudyk), on a perilous mission to the Imperial base on Scarif. As they fight to obtain the plans, they face overwhelming odds and significant sacrifices. Ultimately, Jyn and her team succeed in transmitting the plans to the Rebel fleet, just before they are all killed. Their efforts pave the way for the Rebellion to destroy the Death Star, setting the stage for the events of *A New Hope*.
